DLT registration is regulated by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Registering with DLT ensures that only authorized and legal businesses are able to send SMS to customers. DLT registration helps to build trust between businesses and customers when the SMS is delivered
It is legally mandatory for businesses to register with DLT Platforms for sending SMS in India.

Before applying for DLT registration, please keep the following in mind:
DLT registration is handled by telecom operators. If you register with one operator and later want to register with another, make sure to share the details of your first registration.

Steps to apply for DLT registration:
Step1: Register as a Principle Entity (PE Registration)
Principle Entity registration process on any DLT platform involves signing up with an email and phone number and submitting all the relevant documents to the telecom operator for registration on their DLT platform. Once all the documents Is submitted it will be reviewed by the Telecom operator and post approval you may proceed to the next step.
Step2: Register the Header (Sender ID)
Once yourprinciple entity registration documents is approved the next step is to register the unique header/Sender ID, It is nothing but the name or number displayed to your customers as sender of the message.
For Transactional messages the sender ID is always alphabetical like “HDFCBK”
For Promotional messages the sender ID is always numeric like “620016”
The sender ID should be relevant to your business/brand name.
Once you submit the sender ID request, it will be reviewed by the telecom operator.
Step3: Register the Template(Content Template)
Once you have your sender ID approved the next step is to get the content approved, it is nothing but the body of the message that you wish to send to your customers.
A standard SMS has 160 characters, so you can create an SMS template that is within that character limit to make it count as an 1 message, if the character limit exceeds 160 it will be counted as 2 SMS due to the higher number of characters.
Once the content template is approved by the telecom operator, An unique template ID is issued.
Step4: CTA whitelisting (Whitelisting Links/Numbers)
CTA whitelisting is doneto ensure the Links/Mobile Numbers used in your SMS message body is trusted and not spam/malware. IF CTA whitelisting is not done the SMS may not be delivered to the customers.
CTA whitelisting might also ask for proof of ownership in some cases
Step5: Register PE-TM chain
The final process is to link your principle entity with the telemarketer like Get Click to Call. This enables you to use our channels and operators to send SMS. This process is called the PE-TM Chain binding.
